iStack

Hey guys, Oliver P. here, and today I’ll be reviewing iStack by iAware.  This app is $1.99, and I would rate it 9/10 apples.

Ever heard of sport stacking?  Well, it's a sport which involves stacking and unstacking special cups as fast as possible.

What you do in the game is choose from 3 different stacks: the 3-3-3, the 3-6-3, and the Cycle to perform.

For those stack newbies out there, there are in-game instructions on how to do the 3 stacks. The controls are easy: drag the cups around, choose one of the three methods (Pick up one cup, pick up all but one, and pick up all) and every once in a while, flip a cup!

Timing is simple: put both of your fingers on the yellow pads, and once the light turns green, commence stacking!  Stopping is also a peace-of-cake; just put your fingers on the pads again, and the timer stops!

If you have the awesomest time ever and want to remember it, put the time on the leader board! Though you can't put it online, you can show your friends your stacking prowess!

The options menu allows users to change the style and color of their cups and mat.

If this review has inspired you to stack, head over to www.SpeedStacks.com for everything Stacking!  You can play games, learn how to stack, and buy timers, mats, cups, and more! To download iStack click here!

Spore Origins

Hey guys, Alex here for AppStoreReviewers and I’ll be reviewing the App for the iPod Touch/iPhone, Spore Origins by EA Games. In this game you are challenged to not just survive but evolve. In the game, the concept is simple… Eat everything smaller than you, while you make your way through 30 fun levels. As you pass levels you’ll be getting a change of scenery each level. You go through everything from lava to slime. This game also lets you have multiple games saved which is a great feature!
Evolving is great, you can change your appearance add weapons and evolve to be bigger and stronger. This app also has one more exciting mode you can play, survival mode. In this mode you‘ll be in a small screen with food swimming and enemies. You survive as long as possible. This app is $1.99 and it’s great. Click here to download it.

Madden NFL 10

Hey guys, Oliver P. here, guest, from the AppStoreReviewers with a cool new app from EA called Madden NFL 10, a $9.99 app for football fans who either don't want to pay big bucks for good graphics and awesome game play, which I know because I have the real deal, or want to play it on the go.  Before I tell you about the app, I want to get your app review glands in action with some specs.

Pros: The game's really fun, great for wasting time waiting for food at tables at restaurants.
Cons: The graphics are a bit odd, but it's not a console, so I don't blame it, but still.

Alrighty then!  So the first thing you'll see is a menu with different options.  Let's choose PLAY NOW.  So then you pick teams.  The coin toss goes and the receive/kick is chosen.  If you aren't returning, drag the ball in the corner of the screen down and then up as centered as possible to kick.  Press the "arrows" button for a burst of defensive speed. Either let the computer make the tackle, or press the "watch" button to slow time.  Cool!  Here, press a button to make your players perform the action you chose.

If you are receiving, use the control stick to move your player,  and again, using the arrows button for speed.  To juke or evade tacklers, press the slow-time button.  On following plays on offense, choose the type and specific play, and tap the screen to go.  On runs, treat it like a return, using the controls above.

Before pass plays, press the "lines" button to draw receiver routes.  Then hike.  Notice those circles?  Those are handy tools to tell you "openness."  I find this tool useful.  Green is what you want, so when you see green, tap the circles to make a pass and pray for a reception.

My favourite feature is the draw plays button.  In the real game, you have to choose streaks or whatever and there's no customization.  In this version, make the play exactly how you want. The speed button is also nice.   I think the slow button is a bit unnecessary, however.  Just use AI, EA!

So this has been my review of EA's Madden NFL 10, for $9.99, and I say 8 apples and definitely a must-buy for gamers and football fans.

Geektool

A Mac can change its desktop wallpaper.  So can a PC.  But only a Mac can add changing elements to its desktop.

Hey guys.  Reese here to introduce another Mac app review.  Today I’ll be reviewing GeekTool by Tynsoe.  This app runs as a preference pane in the system preferences menu.  GeekTool is 100% free and is 100% fun.  So to start off, when you first open up this app, you get a screen like this:

Figure 1

Figure 1

Now, when you  want to add an element, (like a clock, weather, to-do, etc.), to your desktop, you start by pressing “New Entry”.  Every entry is either a Picture, Shell, or File.  I’ll explain all three.  First, if you want to add a picture to your desktop, click “Picture” from the drop-down menu.  If you found the picture online, copy and paste the URL into the box that says “URL”.  If you didn’t find the picture online, you must upload your picture through an FTP server, or you could use a piece of software called “QuickShareIt” (we’re not going to cover how to use QuickShareIt).  Here’s something cool: in the box that says “URL”, type in http://b5.s3.quickshareit.com/board7262b.png.  Pictures take some time to get through.  After a minute or so, check out your desktop.  You should see a picture of a bulletin board!  You may drag it or resize it anywhere you’d like.  To make the image look a bit better, go to “Style”, then under “Image Size”, select “Fit”.  Your picture should look bigger now.  Next, press “New Entry” again.  From the drop down menu, select Shell.  There should be a box that says “Command”.  Here you can type in various codes that will let you add stuff like clocks, to-do lists, and CPU usage.  Here are some sites were you can find codes: (1)  http://www.keynote2keynote.com/2007/04/10/ultimate-geektool-setup-pimp-your-desktop-part-2/ (2)-http://www.macosxtutorials.com/tutorials/geektool_2.html.  And so what you basically do is copy and paste the code into the “Command” box and press return.  You should see whatever code you entered; then it will do what it should do.  Sometimes the text is small and you can’t read it.  Make sure to drag it out to a white part of your screen to see it better.  To change the color and text of your element, select “Colors & Font”.  You may select the color and the font and size from that panel.  Lastly, use File for adding elements, like to-do lists, easier.  Simply write your to-do list in a TextEdit document.  In GeekTool select “New Entry” and choose “File” from the drop down.  Locate the path of the location of your file and you’re ready to go.  Remember that bulletin board I should you?  Well that graph paper would make a great spot to put your to-do list on, and you could add pictures, too.  Well, now you are all GeekTool experts.  And that was my review on GeekTool by Tynsoe.  Just one last thing: when you click here to download GeekTool, I’d recommend not to get version 3.0.  Version 2.1.2 is way better and was used in this review.  So this app is free and is rated 7 ******* Apples by AppStoreReviewers.

Facebook

Hey guys, Max here, and today I'll be reviewing Facebook®, the app for the iPod touch and iPhone. Facebook® is a great social networking app that you might know from their website, http://facebook.com. If you haven’t heard about Facebook, you must be living under a rock, because I know it’s hard to believe but Facebook has more traffic than AppStoreReviewers.com has! Now, the UI (user interface) of the app has improved a lot in this latest update from it’s last UI, which I found a little buggy! I think the new UI is a big improvement, as I said, especially because of it’s new features such as: landscape mode, a new profile and home design, a new editable main menu – to change between profile, notifications, inbox, chat, etc. To edit the main menu, you hold down one of the icons, like you would on your iPod touch/iPhone’s home screen! And many more new features in this update. I use this app at least once everyday, to check out what’s new on FB. I like this app a lot, and I would rate it ******** 8/10 Apples by AppStoreReviewers, it’s available for FREE on the Apple App Store, this app is by Facebook Inc. and you can download it here!

Dock Dr

Hey guys.  This is Reese here, Co-Producer & Founder.  And today I’m going to do a written review on Dock Dr.  Just to let you know this is not an iPhone app, it’s a mac app.  I know this website is for iPhone app reviews, but I just used this piece of software and I immediately fell in love with it.  Without any further ado, I’d give Dock Dr ********* 9/10 apples because of how cool it is. And so what does Dock Dr do?  Dock Dr let’s you change what your dock looks like.  You could change it to “Radiant Red”, “Ice Cold Blue”, “Marble”, or even a guitar fret.  Clicking the “Get Docks” button opens up a webpage where users may download docks created by other users.  Installing them is as easy as dragging a file into Dock Dr.  Spacers add small gaps in your dock for whatever reason.  I don’t recommend using this setting because  it looks ugly, (in my opinion), and the program warns you to use the setting cautiously because the spacers are hard to get rid of.  Anyway that was my written review on Dock Dr.  Click here to download Dock Dr.

Bon Mot!

Hey guys.  Reese here for another written app review.  Today I’m going to review Bon Mot! by The App Orchard.  It’s an app for all you word game lovers.  Bon Mot! is a fun, easy, and intuitive way to learn complex words and to increase your vocabulary.  The app comes loaded with three games: Bon Mot!, Spellissimo!, and Free Play.  Let’s start with Bon Mot!  In this game you are presented with seven letters and you have a timer of two minutes.  You must drag out the letters from the top of the screen to the playing field and string them together to create the longest word you can.  Once you have created a word you go onto another.  The more letters in the word, the more points you score.  Red and Green tiles are worth more, therefore they only show up once in a while.  After two minutes your time is up and your score is submitted to the global high scores list.  In the beginning of  Spellissimo!, you are given seven tiles in which you can change by dragging them onto the playing field. The system will automatically chose another random tile and replace it with the one you dragged out.  But hurry doing this because you only have five seconds.  Once you are happy with your tiles or time has run out, the clock sets itself to two minutes and the game begins.  This game is a lot like Bon Mot!, but here you stay with the same seven tiles.  Try to score as many points as you can.  Free Play mode is a lot like Bon Mot!, except in this game there is no time limit and your score is never submitted to the global high scores list.  So that’s my review on Bon Mot!  I’d give this app ******** 8/10 apples because of it’s decent graphics and sound.  Though the game is lacking online and/or Bluetooth two player mode, and two letter words. Bon Mot! is available for $0.99 on the app store.  Click here to download Bon Mot!

Quicksilver

Hey guys, Reese, (Co-Producer & Founder) here, and boy do I have a great Mac App for you today.  If you haven’t already heard of it, it’s called Quicksilver by Blacktree and this app is available for Free!  So what is Quicksilver, you might ask?  Quicksilver is basically a more advanced spotlight.  Once you download it, you assign a hot key which when pressed will bring up the Quicksilver bezel.  Start by typing in a keyword or title; Quicksilver’s top result is based on how much you use the searched file, folder, or app.  To see more results, press the down arrow, and once you’ve found the item your looking for, hit return.  But opening files is only the beginning for what Quicksilver can accomplish.  Say you wan’t to send a picture of your dog to your friend.  Just search for the photo, type in the email address, and BOOM, an email with the attachment of a picture of your dog was sent to your friend.  That's the power of Quicksilver.

And that was my review on Quicksilver by Blacktree available for Free by clicking here. Rated ********* 9 Apples by AppStoreReviewers! Thanks guys Reese here from the AppStoreReviewers signing out.
